Dr Husam Zomlot delivered on 29 March a note at the Al-Quds Foundation for Medical Schools in Palestine (FQMS) 2019 Dinner Gala, in which he lauded the foundation’s role in developing medical schools in Palestine.
He said: “I am one of the lucky ones to actually have witnessed your beginnings in the late 1990s. We have seen your investments in the many doctors who concluded their phds and went back there. When you started, there were no medical schools in Palestine ,but now we have four.”
Commenting on current affairs, Dr Zomlot added that it was a “sad moment when you see a president of a superpower signing away an occupied territory to the leader of a country as an elections favour” in reference to the acknolwedgemtns of Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights by US President Donald Trump.
Dr Zomlot noted that “the Palestinians showed the world that it is not about how we failed, but rather about how we survived”.
The FQMS was established in 1997 in Britain as a charity to help in developing medical education in Palestine. The charity operates four training and capacity building programmes with four medical schools in Palestine: Al Azhar University in Gaza, The Islamic University of Gaza, Al-Quds University in Jerusalem and Al-Najah University in Nablus.
