Israeli settlers attack vehicles near Ramallah

Israeli settlers on 6 September attacked Palestinian-registered vehicles passing near the illegal Israeli settlement of Kokhav HaShahar to the northeast of Ramallah, causing damage to some.

Local witnesses told WAFA settlers through rocks and stones at passing cars, among them a vehicle belonging to Rafiq Abu Alia, from the nearby village of al-Mughayyer.

Extremist Israeli settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

Such violence includes physical attacks against individuals, arson attacks against properties, orchards and mosques, and the uprooting of crops and felling of olive trees.

Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law.

All settlements in the West Bank are illegal under international law, particularly article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which establishes that the occupying power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.
