H.E. Dr. Husam Zomlot, the Palestinian ambassador to the UK, on 20 September visited the All Saints Catholic School in Dagenham, London. The visit came as part of the Rivers of the World Project, in which students at All Saints had been studying rivers in Jericho, Palestine, the oldest, continuously inhabited city in the world
Ben Miskell, the Labour Councillor for Park and Arbourthorne in Sheffield, informed students about his experiences in schools in Hebron, as well as his solidarity work for the Palestinian people and his attempts to pressure the British government to recognize the State of Palestine.
Rivers of the World Project is an international project conducted in partnership with the British Council. It encourages young pupils to reflect on local and international issues in order to increase their international awareness skills, and to prepare them for the skills necessary to work in a growing globalized world.
Plastic pollution in water is an issue faced both in Dagenham and Jericho. Students were assigned the task of tackling this problem and to create an artwork to be showcased at The Crystal in Newham.
Dr Zomlot was welcomed by the prefects and school council, as well as a group of Palestinian teachers who are in Dagenham for a training programme.
