The Ongoing Nakba

This year marks 76 years since the Nakba.

The impact of the Nakba in the Palestinian experience cannot be overstated. In 1947-49, two-thirds of the Palestinian population was forced from their homes, land, villages, towns, and cities, never to be allowed to return.

Thousands lost their lives. All lost their livelihoods and homeland.

Today, Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territory face a genocide, most severely in Gaza, but also in the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

This genocide must be seen in the context of the original Nakba as part of an ongoing 76-year-long Israeli attempt at erasing the Palestinian People.

The Palestinian Mission to the UK along with the Council of Arab Ambassadors would be honoured if you could join us on this sombre occasion, alongside a number of renowned intellectuals, politicians and artists who will be speaking and performing.

Let us work towards a future where everyone can live in peace, dignity, freedom and equality under law.

Sincerely,

Ambassador Dr Husam Zomlot,

Head of the Palestinian Mission to the United Kingdom
