The Israeli occupation must endJune 5, 2018, midnight
Another year of Israeli occupation grinds on with its endless humiliations and acts of dehumanization. Today, on 5th June Palestinians commemorate the tragedy of 1967 which followed the catastrophe of 1948 when 750,000 Palestinians, three quarters of the entire population of Palestine were ethnically cleansed by Zionist terror groups and became refugees. In 1967, when Israel violently seized the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, a further 300,000 Palestinians were forced to leave their homes, some becoming refugees for a second time in a generation.
At 51 years, the Israeli occupation is in its second half-century and is characterized by five categories of major violations of international human rights law and humanitarian law. These include unlawful killings, forced displacement and illegal confiscation of land, abusive detention, unjustified restriction of movement, the blockade of Gaza and discriminatory policies. Only two weeks ago Israeli snipers massacred 100 Palestinian protesters on the Gaza border. Only last week an Israeli court ordered the demolition of the Palestinian village of Khan al-Ahmar to construct 3000 illegal settlement units. There are currently 600,000 illegal Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Since 1967, 800,000 Palestinians have been imprisoned mostly convicted by Israeli military courts which have a near 100% conviction rate. This includes child prisoners with the case Ahed Tamimi a recent example. 51 years of occupation has seen institutionalized racist Israeli policies which have endorsed the revocation of 130,000 resident permits of Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and 15,000 of Palestinian residents of Jerusalem. The 11 year Gaza blockade will make the Strip containing 1.9 million Palestinians unlivable by 2020 according to the UN.
It is time for the international community to stop tiptoeing around this racist violent rogue state and impose sanctions immediately on Israel until it ends its occupation, dismantles its illegal settlements and accepts that the Palestinians have state of their own on 1967 border and commit to a just solution for the 7 million Palestinian refugees, as enshrined in UN resolution 194.
