Challenging Young Minds, Caius Politics Society, Cambridge University

Nov. 9, 2015, 5 a.m.

Ambassador Manuel Hassassian was invited to give a talk at Caius Politics Society at Cambridge University last week. He spoke to a packed hall of students about the deepening crisis in Occupied Palestine. He gave students an insight into what is really going on in Jerusalem, the fossilized peace process, why Israel has been steadily disempowering the Palestinian Authority and much more. He gave a picture of life for Palestinians, behind the headlines, of the 600 military checkpoints impeding any kind of normal life for Palestinians, the settler violence, the killings by the Israeli army, the utter disillusionment, frustration and humiliation felt by young people and how this has goaded them to resist the occupation in desperate ways. Students at Cambridge were thoroughly engaged by the Ambassador’s talk and discussion was stimulated in the conference hall and spilled over to social media sites afterwards. Sowing the seeds of inquiry and a quest for justice in bright, young minds will continue to help our cause.
