Hanan Al Hroub opens the London Stock ExchangeNov. 30, 2016, midnight
Hanan Al Hroub, the Palestinian teacher who won the Global Teacher Prize opened the London Stock Exchange on Tuesday 29th November, the day that marks International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
Hanan, born in a refugee camp teaches in occupied Palestine and after visits to Rome and Washington in recent months is now in London where she launched the Palestinian’s Mission Make it Right for Palestine Campaign. At the event she was invited to speak at the National Union of Teacher’s annual conference next April.
Hanan won the Global Teacher Prize for her methods in helping Palestinian children living under occupation learn in a safe space giving specialist care to pupils exposed to violence.
At the opening ceremony at the London Stock Exchange which was attended by School’s Minister Nick Gibb and CEO of the Stock Exchange, Nikhil Rathi she said, “I strongly believe education is the investment that gives the greatest dividends of all”.
Hanan has had a busy time in London attending a Roundtable Discussion on refugee children, a conference at the LSE, a Cambridge University speaking event and the Porter magazine Women of the Year awards.
She has also been inaugurated as the new Patron of Palestine Twinning Network which has education as its key focus for the coming year.
Hanan Al Hroub is a symbol of Palestinian resilience and humanity in the face of a brutal occupation. She hopes and believes that, with education, Palestinians can reclaim their homeland.
