Palestine has lost a true friendJune 19, 2016, midnight
On behalf of the Palestinian leadership and the Palestinian people I would like to express my sincere and heartfelt condolences for the tragic and untimely death of our dear friend Jo Cox, MP for Batley and Spen. It was truly terrible and shocking to hear of Jo’s death.
Jo wanted to make the world a better place. She devoted her life to campaigning for human rights, social justice and peace in Palestine, Syria and the world at large. She was full of passion, humility and she never tired of advocating and speaking on behalf of the disadvantaged and the oppressed. Her energy and her commitment will be greatly missed but should remain as an example to us all
Jo was a staunch advocate for Palestine and a member of the Labour Friends of Palestine and the Middle East. She was outspoken against Israel's illegal policies and occupation of the State of Palestine. Among many other issues, she championed the rights of Palestinian child prisoners in Israeli detention and called for lifting of the siege on Gaza. She also supported ending trade with illegal Israeli settlements.
Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with Jo's family, friends, the Labour party, and the British people. We Palestinians have lost a remarkable and true friend of Palestine who will always be remembered for her earnest support for our cause.
